About Bansko Nomad Fest

Over the past six years, Bansko has emerged as a prominent digital nomad hub in Europe. Coworking Bansko serves as the community's epicenter, boasting approximately 125 nomadic members on average. Many nomads have become permanent Bansko residents, while others return after exploring the globe. Bansko Nomad Fest encapsulates this magic in a week-long event, highlighting all that Bansko has to offer and sharing this unique experience with hundreds of new friends. Last year's event was sold out with 550 attendees, and this year, we have expanded our capacity to accommodate 750 nomads.

The Stories of Bansko Nomad Fest

PEOPLE, NATURE, ACTIVITIES, LEARNING, CONNECTIONS

">

The small town of Bansko attracts hundreds of digital nomads wanting to settle down or live a location-independent lifestyle. Once a year, the Bansko Nomad Fest is held in the Bulgarian ski town to gather nomads wanting to connect with each other. Bansko Nomad Fest is a week packed with activities, workshops and presentations about digital nomadism.

Over 300 digital nomads from 20 countries gathered in Bansko to exchange knowledge, experience and ideas and work in a shared space. The nomadic festival in Bansko is being held for the second year in a row, and the nomads are expected to stay in our country for at least a week. Digital nomads travel around the world and travel to about 50 countries a year. They let their free spirit lead them to different parts of the world indefinitely.

What's up, everyone?! I finally made it to the Bansko Nomad Fest, probably one of the most significant events for Digital Nomads around the world. In this video, I'm gonna cover what the event is about, the agenda, how much it costs, where to stay, and ultimately if it is worth it or not!If you want to come to check the event, I hope this video can be useful for you to take your decision and plan your trip to Bansko Nomad Fest!

Catalina González Valdés has sent us a fantastic video capturing the vibrant and immersive experience of the Bansko Nomad Fest. Her video features some of the festival's highlights, including engaging talks, thrilling outdoor activities, and the lively community of digital nomads. It's a great representation of the festival's atmosphere and will surely inspire others to join in on the fun.

">

Caspar's official Bansko Nomad Fest 2021 video is an excellent recap of the entire week, perfect for both attendees and those considering attending in the future. Special thanks to Vladimir Dimitrov and Shelly Agam for their contributions in providing drone shots and action cam footage.

Matthias Zeitler is the co-founder of Coworking Bansko, one of the most recognised destinations for digital nomads in Europe. This German entrepreneur, a digital nomad himself, created the haven for foreigners five years ago.

He chose the small mountain town of Bansko, one of the main ski resorts in Bulgaria. "I decided that Bulgaria is actually a very interesting location because there's a low cost of living," Matthias said. "There's low taxation. It's in Europe, so you don't have any issues with visas and it has amazing nature. I found Bansko, here in the Pirin Mountain range. As I love the mountains, for me, it was a natural choice to come here.”

And from today Bansko starts a very interesting festival Bansko Nomad Fest. More than 500 digital nomads from more than 40 countries around the world are expected to gather. Yordanka Bakalska is there to tell us what will be happening in the resort in the coming days

">

The story of Bansko, a ski resort in Bulgaria, is a true inspiration and a great showcase how a regular travel destination can turn into the global hub for digital nomads where Ukrainian refugees also found a place under the sun.

">

I’ve had a blast attending Bansko Nomad Fest 2021 in Bulgaria. It was a fantastic event specifically designed to get together digital nomads from all around the world. Honestly, community matters no matter where you go. And the community I’ve met in Bansko felt like home. And not just for me, but for a lot of them. Some of the nomads decided to buy an apartment in Bansko to stay longer. Crazy, right?!In short, this is what it was like to attend Bansko Nomad Fest 2021. I tried to make it as short as possible, but there was so much going on, it was hard to decide what to keep and what not. I volunteered at this event, and I absolutely loved attending this beautiful celebration for the nomadic lifestyle.

">

This vlog is about my week at the Bansko Nomad Fest. It was a great experience full of talks, events, food and meeting awesome people.

">

Matthias is a location independent entrepreneur with a passion for community and ecosystem development. He is growing Bansko, a mountain resort in Bulgaria, into one of the premier destinations for digital nomads. At Coworking Bansko he is turning nomads into residents since 2016.

Ticket Inclusions:

  • Access to event venues, including the private Facebook group
  • All keynotes and presentations
  • Unconference sessions
  • Most park activities, such as yoga, volleyball, quiz night, karaoke, and games. A few activities, like printing your own t-shirts or mugs, may have a small additional charge to cover materials or request a pay-what-you-want donation towards charity.

Premium Activities (Additional Fees):

  • These can be booked through the app, and we strive to offer lower prices compared to booking directly with providers.
  • Here are some indicative sample prices for premium events, including transportation and VAT, final pricing in the app: Pool parties / hot springs (€10), ATV (€60), paintball (€30), horseback riding (€30), wine tasting tours (€50), rafting (€50), and guided hikes (€25).

Insurance (Not Included):

  • Obtain your own insurance. Our liability waiver is comprehensive; if something happens to you, it's not our responsibility. Make sure to have travel insurance to cover common risks. SafetyWing is a good choice.

What does the event schedule look like? Is it possible to work during the week?

Bansko Nomad Fest is often described by previous attendees as an exhilarating and intense experience, ranking among the best times of their lives. However, it may not be the most conducive environment for productivity. The event features numerous parallel activities running from early mornings until late evenings, so it is recommended to keep your work commitments to a minimum during the festival. You may find time to check emails occasionally, but scheduling major projects or product launches during the event is not advised.

A preliminary schedule will be released in early June, with frequent updates and changes leading up to the start of the event. Some alterations may even occur during the festival, and certain sessions, like unconference topics, will only be finalized on-site. As a result, it's essential to maintain an open mind and remain flexible when planning your time for specific activities.

If you require a focused workspace, Coworking Bansko is available for booking. The town also has 4G/5G coverage, making it easy to stay connected with a local SIM card (starting at approximately €5 for a few GB). While we do not provide Wi-Fi for attendees at our venues, slower, free Wi-Fi access points can be found in the town square and at various cafes and restaurants.

Good news: All keynotes will be live-streamed, so you can catch up on any missed presentations later. However, certain activities like rafting cannot be experienced in the Metaverse, so be sure to plan for in-person participation.

Understanding unconference sessions and how to participate

Participate in Unconference Sessions: Pitch, Plan, and Engage in Collaborative Discussions

Unconference sessions provide a platform for all attendees to pitch their ideas, host meetups, and engage in collaborative discussions. If you're passionate about a specific topic, come prepared to share and discuss it with others. Session planning takes place on Monday afternoon in the Park.

The unconference concept emphasizes spontaneity and flexibility. There are no predetermined topics, keynote speakers, panels, or working groups. Instead, the event thrives on the active participation of attendees who decide on discussion topics and organize individual breakout sessions. In short, the unconference has no set agenda until attendees create one together.

For many, the unconference sessions are a highlight of Bansko Nomad Fest, offering unique opportunities to connect, learn, and grow through shared knowledge and experiences.

Check this video for an explanation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFjCfSNXbRg

Recommendations on what to bring and prepare for the event

Essential Items to Bring:

  • A travel magnet (we'll give you one of our magnets in return)
  • Hiking boots for those planning to hike
  • Swimwear for hot springs and pool activities
  • A yoga mat if you prefer using your own (we'll have some available as well)
  • For the optional forest camping night: sleeping bag (and tent)
  • Positive vibes and enthusiasm

Preparations to Make:

  • After registering your ticket, promptly book flights, accommodation, and transfers to avoid last-minute price hikes.
  • Prepare a 30-second introduction for networking activities: Who are you? What do you do? What do you hope to gain from Bansko Nomad Fest?
  • Consider presenting a workshop or session during the unconference slots. Be ready to pitch your idea during Monday's session planning.
  • If seeking funding, prepare for the startup pitch competition. We'll have on-site prep sessions and signups via the app.

Two Weeks Before the Event:

  • Browse the list of available activities in the app, and reserve your spot for premium activities and lunch.

Accessing the Event: Bansko Nomad Fest App, Liability Waiver, Bracelet, Badge, and Facebook Group

Join the Facebook Group:

To stay connected with other participants and receive updates on schedules and other information, join our exclusive Facebook Group for ticket holders. The link will be posted here on June 1st. If you don't have a Facebook account, please create one specifically for the event to ensure you don't miss important information.

Bansko Nomad Fest App:

We'll publish the schedule and additional details through our official app. The app enables you to claim your bracelet & badge, sign up for capacity-limited events, premium activities, order lunch, and much more. All ticket holders will receive the waiver and the app link on June 9th. Please watch your inbox. We will also announce it on our social media so that hopefully no one will miss it.

  • To use the app, you'll need a smartphone and a data plan.
  • To use the app you will need to sign the liability waiver.

Liability Waiver & Event Bracelet Requirements
Before participating in Bansko Nomad Fest, you'll receive a liability waiver via email that must be signed electronically. To collect your badge, bracelet, and t-shirt, please check in either at the opening night on the town square or at the main venue from Monday to Saturday, between 9:30 am and 12:30 pm.

Wearing the event bracelet is mandatory for access to all event venues and activities. Your bracelet is personal and should not be shared with others. Sharing your bracelet will result in your ticket being voided, and both parties will be asked to leave. If your bracelet is lost, it will not be replaced, and you'll be required to purchase another ticket. To avoid inconvenience, please be cautious and keep your bracelet secure at all times.

I cannot attend the whole event, do you have day passes? Can my partner attend for free? Can I join "public" activities without a ticket?

Part-time
We highly recommend attending the entire Bansko Nomad Fest, but we understand that a full week may not be feasible for everyone.
To accommodate varying schedules, we offer a weekend ticket option, allowing you to enjoy many of the event's key highlights at a reduced price. This provides a more flexible experience, enabling a wider audience to participate and make the most of their time at the event. The weekend tickets will cover Friday to Sunday.

Everyone needs a ticket
Please note that access to all our venues and activities, even those held in seemingly public spaces such as the park, pools, restaurants, or clubs, is exclusive to ticket holders. It is highly recommended to register and secure your ticket before arriving in Bansko. Keep in mind that ticket prices increase over time, so the earlier you purchase, the more you save.  Our tickets do not permit name changes, and we typically reach full capacity. As a result, please do not rely on the possibility of acquiring a ticket that is not sold via our website - it will be invalid.

If you're traveling with a partner who wishes to participate in select activities only, they will also require a ticket to access our venues and join activities, including dinners etc.

In the past we had some people that decided that they do not a ticket, or can just sneak into activities and then were very disappointed when they couldn't enjoy the event. Do not be one of them please.

Children
While many nomads travel with children and we believe children are an important component of the nomad ecosystem, this event is not designed for children. We do not offer activities specifically for children and we do not organize child-care.
It is your responsibility as a parent to decide if this is the right event for your child. And then supervise them during the event, depending on age. This is an event for adults, so there will be adult content, alcohol and safety concerns for some activities that might not be suitable for your child.
We will hold children to the same standard as every other attendee when it comes to behavior. Children will require a ticket to access our venues and we reserve the right to ask them to leave if they become too disruptive to any activity.

Ensuring safety and adherence to the Code of Conduct

Please aim to be the best version of yourself and respect the other attendees. #consent
We have a code of conduct that we take very seriously and we enforce it strictly during the event. It is also part of the waiver that everyone signs before attending the event. We had very little problems in the past and aim to keep it this way.
If you want to make a report then please use this incident form - you can also do this anonymously but of course it is easier to follow up on incidents if we know who is involved.
If you see something please say something to keep this a safe and enjoyable event for everyone. If you do not feel comfortable in any situation please look for Brit, Matthias, one of our team leads or any other volunteer.

-> If one of our team members asks you to stop any behavior, leave a venue, or similar please follow their instructions without arguing. They represent Bansko Nomad Fest and exercise our rights. In doubt: Their bracelets say team". If you disagree with any decision then please escalate *afterwards* to Brit or Matthias.

Insurance
If you do not have travel insurance yet, then SafetyWing is a good choice. I am not only writing this because they are a partner for Bansko Nomad Fest and pay us a small commission that we use to buy boardgames, but they had multiple team members in Bansko in the past and we have lots of members that had good experiences with them handling claims. So click on the link, get us some boardgame funds and have a piece of mind that you are covered.

Lost & Found
There will be many people during the event. To avoid stuff getting lost please keep track of your possessions. We will have some visible and hidden cameras around the venues, but generally it is your responsibility to watch your possessions. We have a lost & found at the infopoint at the Park venue.

Mobile Phone
Please make sure that your mobile phone is charged and that you have a data plan, so that you can always get help in case you are lost, injured, or face any other obstacles. There is normally also good mobile coverage when you are hiking in the mountains.

Special membership deals for Coworking Bansko

We will have a special deal for you if you need access to a workspace during Bansko Nomad Fest or become a member of the Coworking Bansko community before or after the event. Booking will be via the app that will be available after June 1st.

Over 550 nomads converged on our charming mountain town for a week filled with unforgettable experiences, fostering an atmosphere of extreme FOMO. A plethora of new connections, activities, and events were condensed into one extraordinary week, showcasing the magic we create collectively.

Year 2

At our second event, approximately 350 attendees gathered, solidifying Bansko Nomad Fest as one of Europe's premier nomad events. Our quaint town served as the ideal backdrop for a week of seamlessly blending work and fun, enabling participants to fully embrace life.

Year 1

During our inaugural Bansko Nomad Fest, amidst the uncertainty of the Covid pandemic, we were unsure if the event could even take place. However, a week prior, circumstances allowed for the gathering of 100 enthusiastic nomads who came together to enjoy an unforgettable experience.
